Little extras that make a big difference
Whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure, you’ll find the extra luxuries and conveniences of First Class can make all the difference – allowing you to arrive at your destination relaxed, revived and ready for the day. Our larger, reclining seats provide total comfort, whether you’re reading a novel, a broadsheet or a spreadsheet.
Free Wi-Fi access lets you to keep in touch during your journey, catch up on business emails or simply while away the time surfing the net. And you won’t have to worry about your laptop running out of battery, because you’ll find a power socket at every table.
Complimentary food and drink
Like any good host, we like to look after our guests’ varied tastes. When you travel First Class with us, you can enjoy our new complimentary food and drink service from the comfort of your own seat. Our offer changes throughout the day; you will be provided with a leaflet to inform you of the menu on your journey. Please ask a member of the on-board team for your vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Breakfast
Don’t worry, our famous bacon butties aren’t going anywhere! But we’ve added a wide range of other tempting treats to our breakfast menu, including vegetarian options. Early birds can count on a full English with a lighter breakfast menu being served until 11.00.
During the day
From 11.00, choose from a selection of sandwiches, a light lunch or a hot meal rounded off with a piece of fruit or a cake. On selected services a delicious East Coast afternoon tea of sandwiches and fruit scone with jam and whipped cream will be served between 15.00 and 16.30.
Evening
On evening services from 17.00, you can still rely on the best East Coast hospitality, with meals served at your seat accompanied by complimentary drinks from our trolley.
Weekends
On weekends and bank holidays, passengers will be served a breakfast roll first thing and thereafter a choice of sandwiches, crisps and cake. Alcoholic drinks and hot food will be available to purchase from our CafeBAR.

Where to find our new complimentary food
You can download a timetable of where our First Class complimentary food service is available. The shaded areas show which trains have the service:
- Passengers travelling with us for 70 minutes or less, or travelling from stations not shaded in the timetable, will receive complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and snacks served at their seats.
- Passengers travelling with us for over 70 minutes from stations shaded in the timetable, will receive a more substantial menu, which will vary according to the time of day and the season.
- On weekdays, passengers travelling on our services shaded in red will be served breakfast, those travelling on services shaded in orange will be served our all-day offer, and passengers on services shaded in grey will be served an evening meal.
- On weekends and bank holidays, passengers travelling for over 70 minutes will be offered a light breakfast in the morning and during the day a choice of sandwiches, crisps and cake.
First Class Quiet Coach
We now offer a First Class Quiet Coach situated in coaches J on our HST trains and in coach K on our Mallard electric trains. Please check the interactive seat map when booking your journey. Just sit back, relax and enjoy some well earned tranquillity.
