Ticket delivery options

When you book tickets online, you can choose from four convenient ticket delivery options, depending on the ticket type.

So whether you prefer to print them yourself, collect at a station or receive them by post, we can arrange the right delivery method to get you on your way with the minimum hassle.

Self-Print

Self-Print is a quick and easy way to pick up your East Coast Advance tickets for travel between stations we call at, straight from your nearest printer. This delivery option is offered automatically when you buy tickets from our website.

Just complete your booking and you’ll receive a pdf format ticket for each named passenger. Then, just print this on plain white A4 paper (one per page, single sided), using black ink in portrait layout to help us check your tickets faster at our stations or on your train.

Or, you can retrieve your tickets and print at any time from My Account. Just click on My bookings where we’ll store them until you travel.

Ticket on Departure

Choosing Ticket on Departure when you book your journey means you pay online, then collect your tickets from one of the self-service ticket vending machines at the stations.

You’ll receive a booking reference which you should bring to station when you travel, along with the credit or debit card you used to make your booking. Then, simply collect your tickets from the self-service machine and relax instead of joining the queue at the ticket office.

If you have purchased a Rewards ticket or paid for your ticket with a Voucher, these can also be collected using any valid credit or debit card.

First Class post

If Ticket on Departure or Self-Print aren't available for your booking, we’ll send your tickets free by First Class post (up to the value of £1,000) or for £2 (up to the value of £5,000).

To make sure the tickets arrive in time for your journey, tickets must be booked at least five working days prior to travel. They will be sent within 24 hours of your booking.

Please note that any delivery charge made at the time of ticket purchase is not refundable should you subsequently cancel and refund your tickets.

Next Day Special Delivery

f you need your tickets fast but can’t or don’t want to use Ticket on Departure or Self-Print, we can arrange to have them sent by Next Day Special Delivery. Just make sure you book them by 17.00 to guarantee delivery by 13.00 the next working day. A signature will be required to complete the delivery. Next Day Special Delivery costs £6.22 up to the value of £500, £7.22 up to £1000, and £9.22 up to £2,500 (inclusive of VAT and per address).

Bookings made on Saturday before 11.00 will be delivered by 13.00 on Monday, unless it is a bank holiday when they will be delivered on Tuesday. Bookings made after 11.00 on Saturday and on Sunday will be delivered by 13.00 on Tuesday.

Please note that any delivery charge made at the time of ticket purchase is not refundable should you subsequently cancel and refund your tickets.

How do I collect my tickets if I live outside the UK?

We can't post tickets to overseas customers, but you can either collect your tickets from a ticket vending machine at the station, or print out your own tickets via Self-Print, where available.

What should I do if I haven't received my tickets by post?

Tickets are usually dispatched within 24 hours of a booking. If you're worried about your tickets or you've still not received them the day before you travel please call Web Support on 03457 225 111 or by email. Please remember to have your booking reference handy.

What ticket delivery options are there to choose from?

There are 4 ways to get hold of your tickets: Self-Print, Ticket on Departure, First Class Post and Next Day Special Delivery. Not all types of tickets allow for all these options, though. You can find out more about ticket delivery options here.

What is a Self-Print ticket?

Self-Print tickets are exactly what they sound like - tickets you can print out yourself. If you choose Self-Print as your delivery method, your ticket is then emailed to you as an electronic pdf file (you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it, which you can download for free from www.adobe.com). You can then print the ticket off whenever you like, and carry it with you on your journey like any other kind of ticket. Just make sure you don't confuse your Self-Print ticket with your email booking confirmation which will be emailed to you at the same time. Your booking confirmation can't be accepted for travel. You'll also need identification documents (such as a passport, National Identity card  or driving license) when travelling to prove the Self-Print ticket is yours. Self-Print is available for travel on East Coast Advance fares, on East Coast trains across the route.

I have completed my booking, but no Self-Print ticket/file is shown on the final confirmation screen. What do I do?

During busy periods our system may not be able to generate your Self-Print ticket instantly. Don't worry, it will usually be ready within 10 minutes and can be accessed from the site when using a desktop or tablet device by Signing In to 'My Account'.

How do I get through the ticket barrier with a Self-Print ticket?

Depending on the station you're leaving from, you can do one of two things:

  • Scan the barcode on the top left hand side of your Self-Print ticket at the ticket barrier
  • Show your Self-Print ticket to a member of staff, and they'll open the barrier for you.

How do I collect my Rewards tickets

Rewards tickets can be printed just like Self-Print tickets. If you choose to do this you'll need some personal ID information for the lead traveller when you book. If you choose 'Ticket on Departure', you'll need bring your eight-character alpha-numeric booking reference and a valid debit or credit card to the station. You can then collect your tickets from a ticket vending machine by inserting your card and entering the reference number on the screen. Your card won't be charged unless you included additional items (for instance, child tickets or London Travelcards) when you booked.
