The inspiration behind our menus
The concept behind our food comes from our desire to create local, comforting, home cooked dishes with a twist.
Before devising our new menu, we drew inspiration from a wealth of research. Getting to know our customers and listening to what they tell us helps us to get it right. We also considered the latest food trends and visited food shows to see what’s new: from street food to healthy eating, from Brazil’s growing influence and local, seasonal flavours, it’s all in our new Summer menu.
So as you can see, a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes to ensure that the food we offer you in First Class is both innovative and to your taste.
Great flavours from along our route
Our passion for uncompromising flavour goes hand-in-hand with our love of local ingredients. Wherever possible we source our food from suppliers who are local to the East Coast route, with the emphasis on great quality.
From brilliant bangers made by Taste Tradition to award-winning wines and cheese, travel with us and you can experience some of our delicious flavours along the way.
Don’t forget, we’d love to see the dishes you’ve enjoyed on your East Coast First Class journey. Tweet a photo of your favourite dish to @eastcoastuk with #eastcoastfavourites for your chance to be a judge in the next Chef of the Year competition!
Nothing but the best for our customers
We serve only the best quality products on board our trains, keeping all the ingredients we use as local as possible to our route. East Coast are known for their much-loved Great British breakfast and tasty bacon butty, so we have teamed up with an award winning farmer and wholesale butchers in Thirsk, just a few miles north of York.
“Sausages with distinction! Using only the best Taste Tradition pork shoulder and belly, our sausages are handmade, hand linked and we only use natural sausage skins. Our butchers blend the minced pork with locally grown Yorkshire herbs, spices and a few breadcrumbs to bind it all together.
We try to keep all the ingredients we use into our sausages as local as possible. The emphasis is on Yorkshire produce. The pork is from our own farm where possible, any other pork is from neighbouring farmers, all the pork is from Yorkshire.”
