Proposed December 2024 Timetable Changes- Consultation on Glasgow and Stirling extensions

22/01/24 Proposed December 2024 Timetable Changes- Consultation on Glasgow and Stirling extensions

LNER has begun an eight-week public consultation to seek views on proposals which would see two direct services to and from Glasgow Central and Stirling removed from its December 2024 timetable. As a result, some existing services will start and terminate at different stations.

The once daily services in each direction, outside of peak hours, typically see substantially fewer customers onboard as travel patterns have shifted in recent years from business to leisure. The areas impacted are already served by other train operators and the rail industry will work together to ensure customers continue to be well served by rail links.

LNER recognises the importance of rail services for passengers and that the proposed reductions, however limited, may raise concerns for people in the areas affected. The consultation provides an opportunity for people to have their say and for LNER to hear the views of its customers and communities.

LNER would still call at Stirling as part of its daily service to and from Inverness.

The public consultation is open from Monday 22 January 2024 to Monday 18 March 2024, after which feedback will be carefully reviewed.  Views can be submitted by email to timetablechanges@lner.co.uk, or at LNER Freepost, RTUH-TUGH-GCLZ, Cramlington, NE23 1WG.

Notes to Editors:

From December 2024 LNER is proposing the following changes to its timetable.

The LNER direct train service to London King’s Cross would no longer call at Glasgow Central at certain times. As a result:

  • The service will not call at Glasgow central at 06:48 southbound and 21:26 northbound.
  • The service will not call at Motherwell at 07:04 southbound and 21:03 northbound.
  • Journeys between Glasgow, Motherwell and London would continue to be served by Avanti West Coast. Glasgow and Motherwell are served by ScotRail services to and from Edinburgh.

LNER services would no longer start or terminate at Stirling*. As a result:

  • LNER services would no longer call at Falkirk Grahamston enroute to/from Stirling.
  • The current 05:34 Stirling to London King’s Cross service would start at Edinburgh and the 15:00 London King’s Cross to Stirling service would terminate at Edinburgh.
  • LNER services would no longer call at Stirling at 05:34 southbound and 20:12 northbound or Falkirk Grahamston at 05:47 southbound and 19:58 northbound.
  • There would continue to be served by ScotRail services to and from Edinburgh Waverley where customers can connect to LNER services to London.

*LNER would continue to call at Stirling at 10:34 southbound and 17:19 northbound, and at Falkirk Grahamston at 10:48 southbound and 17:03 northbound.

A public consultation is open from Monday 22 January 2024 to Monday 18 March 2024, after which feedback will be carefully reviewed.
