All Aboard: East Coast Trains

All Aboard East Coast

All Aboard: East Coast Trains is a 10 part series that takes a lighthearted look at life on the East Coast line as we reveal some of the day-to-day stories of our remarkable Team while also following some of our regular passengers.

Managing nearly a thousand journeys every week and 50,000 passengers every day, East Coast has become Britain’s busiest train operator running fast and frequent services between London King’s Cross and Scotland.

Our train drivers, ticket inspectors, caterers and station staff deal with everything from snow storms and security alerts to stag parties and excitable football fans while the Sky 1HD film crew followed them every step of the way for six months to bring you an insight into life on the East Coast line.

All Aboard: East Coast Trains begins on Sky 1HD at 8pm on Tuesday 12 November.

A Day in the Life

Some trains have taken on iconic names and The Sir Bobby Robson is one of the most famous in the East Coast fleet.  We spend a day in the life of this affectionately named train through the eyes of the relay of staff on board and the station teams en-route from London to Edinburgh and back again. Over fifty staff will spend their working day on the Sir Bobby.   There is nowhere on the line this train is more welcome than in Newcastle where platform staff regulars Claire and Pam keep out a watchful eye.  Speeding through the stunning coastal countryside of Northumberland the engine carries tourists to Edinburgh before turning round and heading back to London.  In Newcastle station, information controller Daz finds himself
in charge of some ‘live’ lost property and the winning streak continues for a group of race-goers when they find themselves on board the train named after a footballing legend.
