Depending on the ticket type, choose how you’d like them delivered - print out at home, picked up at the station or popped through your letterbox. Some journeys also offer m-tickets for mobile devices.

Delivery options

eTicket and self print

We've launched a much simpler and smarter eTicket. eTickets offer you flexibility to choose save your train ticket on your device or you can print your eTicket as you would have done with Self Print previously.

  • Download your eTicket to your Apple Wallet of Google Pay.
  • Or you can print out your eTicket at home.
  • You can retrieve your tickets from My Account anytime.

Simply scan your device or printed eTicket on the ticket barriers to enter or exit the station.

Ticket on Departure

Choosing Ticket on Departure means you pay online, then collect your tickets from one of the self-service ticket vending machines at the station.

You’ll receive a booking reference, which you should bring to station when you travel, along with the credit or debit card you used to make your booking. Simply arrive at the station in good time to collect your tickets from the self-service machine.

First Class post

Just so your tickets arrive in time, they need to be booked at least five working days before you travel. We will send them to you within 24 hours of your booking.

If you cancel your trip, you can claim a ticket refund, but we cannot refund delivery charges.

Next Day Special Delivery

Next Day Special Delivery costs £7.50

If you prefer not to use Ticket on Departure or Self-Print, but still want your ticket fast, we can get them to you with Next Day Special Delivery.

Book your tickets by 5pm to guarantee delivery by 1pm the next working day, and remember a signature will be required for the delivery.

Bookings made on Saturday before 11am will be delivered by 1pm on Monday, unless it’s a bank holiday when they will be delivered on Tuesday. Bookings made after 11am on Saturday and on Sunday will be delivered by 1pm on Tuesday.

Again, if you cancel your trip and claim a ticket refund, we cannot refund delivery charges.

What ticket delivery options are there to choose from?

We've got five options:

  • Recommended: eTickets (download them straight to your device or if you prefer a physical ticket you can print an eTicket at home). An eTickets is easier to change or refund so we always recommend this ticket option.

How do I get through the ticket barrier with an eTicket?

Depending on the station you're leaving from, you can do a couple of things:

  • Scan the QR code on the eTicket from your device or your printed paper if you've chosen to print your eTicket before you arrive at the station
  • Show your eTicket to a member of staff, and they'll open the barrier for you.

Unfortunately the ticket barriers at some stations do not yet have QR Code capability. While care has been taken to avoid retailing eTickets for travel using such stations, there are some stations for which this is unavoidable. For example, if travelling via London Old Street instead of London King’s Cross, simply show your ticket to a member of staff at the ticket barriers to continue your journey.
