Outdoor Adventures and Thrilling Experiences Await with LNER

Let LNER trains take you to some of Britain’s finest scenery and outdoor activities. From late season skiing in Scotland to cycling in the Yorkshire Dales, savour the action as soon as you leave your comfortable LNER train.

Aviemore

Fancy skiing in the Scottish Highlands? Take a LNER train to Aviemore and the dramatic Cairngorm Mountain above. Here, you can whizz down the 30km of ski runs and snowboard park. You don’t need snow on the ground to enjoy the exhilarating Funicular Mountain Railway which offers jaw-dropping mountain views at over 1,000m above sea level.

Close to Aviemore, breathe in the fresh air on a walk around Loch an Eilein where the lush pines of Rothiemurchus Forest crowd in around the picturesque lake.

London

It’s easy to escape the capital’s hubbub at its many world-class parks and gardens, soon after stepping off your LNER train to London. Stroll around Kew Gardens where delicate snowdrops, blood-red tulips and pale purple crocuses fill beautifully manicured beds, and immense tropical palms reach the tops of Victorian glasshouses.

Active sorts can try power-kiting or horse-riding in Richmond Park among hundreds of red deer - residents of the park since Henry VIII’s days. Pick out London’s famous landmarks from the top of Parliament Hill, a hearty stroll around rugged Hampstead Heath with ponds and ribboning pathways.

St. Andrews

If you’re feeling sporty, jump off your LNER train at Leuchars for nearby St. Andrews. Here, you can test your teeing and swing action at the historic golf course and don’t worry, the famous links (including the famous Old Course) are open to all. If you aren’t quite up to Tiger Woods standard, head to the Himalayas Putting Green, the world’s first ‘mini golf’ course.

Relive the opening scenes from the Oscar-winning film Chariots Of Fire with a brisk jog along the sun-kissed West Sands Beach.

Skipton

At the ancient market town of Skipton, you’re on the edge of the famous Yorkshire Dales. Make the most of its bike hire shops and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of this national park on two wheels. A circular route of 29 miles takes in beauty spots including Grassington and the rugged Bolton Abbey, and limestone wall-lined roads where sheep are you only companions.

Get your breath back with a picnic on the River Wharfe’s banks. Or get closer to the water with a relaxing boat trip from Skipton along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.
