What’s on in Europe

Jan/Feb/Mar

Paris
Take a break from the January sales (11 January - 14 February) by enjoying a ride on the 60m-high Paris Big Wheel on Place de la Concorde from where you gain spectacular views of the illuminated Champs-Elysées (until 19 February). For culture lovers, there’s an exhibition at Espace Dalí, in Montmartre, of works bequeathed by the surrealist artist Salvador to his friend and secretary Enrique Sabater (10 February-10 May), and a show of 12 magnificent jade Mayan funerary masks at the Pinacothèque (26 January - 10 June).

Lille
For an entertaining night out in Lille, book a Best of Musical Comedies dinner and show at the Théâtre de l’Hôtel Casino Barrière. Enjoy performances of West Side Story, Singin’ in the Rain, Hair and more and a delicious three-course meal with wine. By day, why not visit Lille Zoo when it reopens after the winter break in mid-February? New additions at the zoo, located in the Parc de la Citadelle, include two Emperor Tamarin monkeys, two White-Lipped Tamarins, a baby saki, and two new young rhinos, who are expected to arrive in May. Even better, entry is free!

Brussels
Brusselicious 2012 puts the spotlight firmly on the food of Brussels and Wallonia throughout the year, with events ranging from food festivals to culinary competitions, larger-than-life sculptures of mussels and Brussels sprouts, and a roaming Taste Magician who concocts dishes on the street. A particular highlight is the Brussels Food Tramway, which gives you a ride around the city in a stylish, white-liveried vehicle, savouring succulent and surprising dishes as you go.
