Like any good host, we like to look after our guests. When you travel First Class with us, you can enjoy our complimentary food and drink service from the comfort of your own seat.
On longer journeys, we will offer our full complimentary service, whilst on shorter journeys we will endeavour to provide you with complimentary drinks and snacks. During busy periods, we may have to substitute or alter some items on the menu at our discretion. You'll be served refreshments at your seat by our friendly on-board team. Our offer changes throughout the day and a crew member will provide you with a leaflet to inform you of the menu for your journey. Please ask a member of the on-board team for your vegetarian options.
Breakfast still includes the popular Great British but we've also introduced porridge as a healthier option to warm you on those winter mornings. Jacket potatoes make a welcome appearance on our new all-day menu, where you can take your pick from a selection of scrumptious sandwiches, light lunches and hot meals. We're also bringing you a new range of delicious cakes based on National Trust recipes, including Madeira & Caraway Seed and Coffee & Cherry cake.
Breakfast
Early birds travelling before 9.30 can count on a Great British breakfast served at their seat, or choose the vegetarian alternative with Halloumi cheese and bubble and squeak.
Mid-morning
Around 11.00, a lighter breakfast menu will be served including our famous bacon butty or, for example, a choice of pastries or toast from our bakery basket.
During the day
From around 11.00, choose from a selection of fresh sandwiches served with hand cooked crisps, a light lunch or a hot meal, rounded off with a piece of fruit or a cake. On selected services a delicious East Coast afternoon tea, of sandwiches and fruit scone with jam and whipped cream, will be served between 15.00 and 16.30.
Evening meals
On selected evening services leaving London King’s Cross from around 17.00 until 19.00, you can choose between a hot meal or from a selection of sandwiches topped off with a tasty dessert or cheese and crackers.
The majority of evening services from around 19.00 serve tasty food at your seat, accompanied by complimentary drinks from our trolley.
Weekends and bank holidays
A light breakfast is served in the morning, followed by a choice of sandwiches with hand cooked crisps and cakes, throughout the day. Alcoholic drinks and hot food will be available to purchase from our CafeBAR.
Drinks
A wide selection of drinks is available to accompany your food – on weekdays, choose from a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks on each menu. Complimentary alcoholic drinks are served to First Class customers aged over 18 on weekday services from around 11.00. Passengers on shorter journeys will be able to choose from a range of complimentary non-alcoholic drinks.

Tasty Treats courtesy of the National Trust
We have created an exciting range that showcases British and local produce at its seasonal best. The National Trust have their very own special cake recipes and with their kind permission we have taken inspiration and lovingly recreated a selection of their best to serve to our passengers on board. A different cake will feature on each weekly menu.
Coffee & Cherry Cake
East Riddlesden Hall – Bradford Road, Riddlesden, Keighley
A delicious moist sponge cake flavoured with a hint of coffee and dotted with cherries. Rich enough to grace any Afternoon Tea!
Treasurer’s House Cut & Come Again Cake
Treasurer’s House – Minster Yard, York
A rich cake brimming with mixed fruit and spices. So delicious that you’ll want to come back for more.
Chocolate & Orange Cake

A light orange Madeira cake speckled with chocolate chips – the perfect pairing for a teatime treat.
Madeira & Caraway Seed Cake
Dorothy Wordsworth House – Cockermouth, Cumbria

In folklore, caraway was used in love-potions – and we’re sure you’ll fall in love with this traditional cake.
