What ticket delivery options are there to choose from?

We've got five options:

I'm a season ticket holder, when can I claim compensation for delays to LNER trains?

If you travel on a LNER service that's late by 30 minutes or more, we'll give you compensation.

Season tickets refunds are calculated on the difference between the price you paid and the cost of a ticket for the time you actually used it. This means the amount of compensation for each journey is:

  • for a weekly Season Ticket, the price of the ticket divided by 10
  • for a monthly Season Ticket, the price of the ticket divided by 40
  • for an annual Season Ticket, the price of the ticket divided by 464

Find more information on the Delay Repay page.

My Season Ticket is damaged and won’t go through the ticket gate?

If your ticket is damaged and won't let you through the gate, take the opportunity to replace it with a Smartcard. The durable plastic lasts longer than paper tickets and Season tickets can be added online or at a Travel centre.

Ask at the Travel centre and they'll be able to help you.

If you're in a hurry and your Season ticket is still legible, speak to a member of staff and they'll be able to open the gate for you.

Will my Season Ticket work with the ticket gates?

Yes, but it'll have to be out of the wallet so you can pop it in the gate. If your Season Ticket gets damaged, just ask for a replacement at the Travel Centre you bought it from.

While the National Rail Conditions of Travel state that children aged under 5 years old travelling with an accompanying fare-paying passenger can travel free of charge, they're not guaranteed their own seat on busy services. In order to guarantee a seat, we recommend under-5s are included as part of the overall number of people travelling with the LNER Family Singles, but the decision is entirely at your discretion.

I want to travel to London Airports. How do I find tickets on your website or app?

If you're buying tickets for the Heathrow Express you'll need to enter the following information during the booking process under ‘Buy a ticket’:

‘From’ – London Paddington

‘To ‘ – Heathrow Express

You'll have the option of 4 tickets to choose from.

Trains go to terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4. The approximate journey times are 15 minutes to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and 25 minutes to Terminal 4.

If you are arriving at Heathrow you'll need to switch them around, enter Heathrow in the ‘From’ field and London Paddington in the ‘To’ field.

To travel to Stansted or Gatwick, all you have to do is type those names into the 'from/to' field.

Buy tickets

Why can I see two tickets with the same name but different prices?

On some journeys to the same place there could be two different routes. One might go through London and one might not. If this happens you'll see two or more tickets with the same name but different prices. The difference in price can be because of different journey lengths or times. What normally happens is that cheaper tickets will have more restrictions about how they're used.

Buy tickets

Can I buy a ticket for someone else?

Yes. Train tickets can be used by anyone. If that person is collecting tickets from a ticket vending machine, they will need the credit or debit card used to make the booking. This might be a little tricky to work around so bear this in mind when booking. If it helps, you can request that tickets are posted to any UK postal address when you book online.

If you buy an eTicket, once you have loaded the ticket into your Apple or Google Wallet, you can share it with someone else. Alternatively, you can request a PDF to be emailed to you that can be printed.

You can also create Gift eVouchers for someone to purchase a train ticket.
