Introducing CCTV cameras on board our trains
From April 2010, we will be installing CCTV cameras across our fleet of trains to enhance safety and security for our customers. Work to fit these systems has already begun and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
As part of a £3.8 million investment, a total of 1,621 CCTV cameras will be fitted to the interiors of train carriages to enhance the safe environment and deter anti-social behaviour.
East Coast engineering director Ian Duncan explains the importance of this investment in passenger safety: “On the very rare occasions when a minority of individuals cause problems on our trains, CCTV systems on board will help protect passengers and our staff against anti-social behaviour, assist authorities with convictions against offenders and hopefully act as a deterrent."
"The introduction of CCTV on board our trains will help to reassure our customers that the train is a safe way to travel.”
Work to fit CCTV systems to East Coast trains has started, and is expected to be complete by October.
Just another example of our commitment to passenger safety.
